"I Just Think I Look Better Thinner"

The other day I posted this on Instagram:

 
 

It appeared to really hit a chord with people.

Our minds have all been programmed. Some of that programming is positive and serves us, and some of it is negative and hurts us.

Growing up in this culture we’ve learned to criticise, blame, and see our bodies as wrong if it doesn’t match up with what the people in our lives say is a “good” or “worthy” body (the programming).

So hearing that the painful thoughts about our bodies floating through our minds may not be our true opinion of ourselves, means it’s possible we can see ourselves in a different way, and feel better about ourselves.

So if we’ve been programmed with ideas about bodies that aren’t ours, how can we tell which thoughts and opinions actually are ours?

Here’s a clear and simple test: if the thought hurts, it’s not true. Which means it’s not yours!

Why are thoughts that hurt “not yours”? Because we are born free of body criticism and judgment.

We don’t come into this world thinking a thin body is “better” or that we look better thin, that’s 100% learned.

The belief that a “thin body is better” hurts is because it separates us from the nature of reality - that there is body diversity and people aren’t better or worse for having different bodies.

Questioning your painful thoughts opens your mind to seeing your body and yourself in a more welcoming and loving way. You may be surprised what opinions you actually hold of yourself ❤️
